The Hurstpierpoint College Preparatory School curriculum

School curriculum is based on the National Curriculum with some additions and variations. It also includes PSHCEE, ‘Hurst for Life’, French, Spanish, Latin. ‘Hurst for Life’ is a weekly lesson that expands the Year 3 to 6 curriculum to skills such as wellbeing, global citizenship, presentation skills, computing, and community service. In Years 7 and 8 pupils follow a bespoke pre-GCSE curriculum for all academic subjects including an independent research project and current affairs. Each pupil may participate in over 10 different extra-curricular academic activities or hobby clubs.

There are regular educational trips for all year groups, visiting speakers and residential trips from Year 7.

Specialist teaching

Specialist teachers for sport, music, computing, and drama throughout, for art, French, Latin, and science from Year 4, and for all subjects from Year 5.

Sport at Hurstpierpoint College Preparatory School

School offers over 20 different sports through the year, through both the curriculum and an extensive extra-curriculum. Competitive teams in major sports from Year 3. In recent years the school has enjoyed national success in netball, rugby.

The Arts at Hurstpierpoint College Preparatory School

Art, music and drama are taught as discrete curricular subjects to all pupils. All pupils learn an instrument in class and two-thirds take extra-curricular instrument lessons from Year 3. Three choirs, orchestra and several instrument ensembles. The school is one of the top 50 UK prep schools for the breadth of its creative and performing arts extra-curriculum.
